Why Participate?

By taking part in clinical trials, you can try a potential new treatment that may (or may not) be better than standard treatments available. Your participation may also help people who may be suffering from the same disease or condition in the future. It is important to remember that if you participate, you will be part of a group that is testing a treatment that has not yet gone through complete testing showing it to be effective and safe.   You may also receive a placebo or inactive medication in some studies, each study is designed differently.

You will always receive normal medical care whether or not you choose to participate in a clinical trial. It is unethical for anyone to pressure you to participate in a study. You should be given complete, accurate and balanced information about the trial. Feel free to take plenty of time to review that information, so you fully understand the benefits and risks before you decide to volunteer.
